Yuma’s Ebers makes good on victory lap pledge

    4/23/2016
By Randy Hoeft @YumaSunSports One way or another, Craig Ebers said he was taking a victory lap Saturday night at Cocopah Speedway. “We hadn’t finished a race in almost a year,” Ebers said, “and I told (race director) Lenna (Miller) before we started, ‘I don’t care if I’m last or first, I’m taking a victory lap.’” And he did exactly that. But then again it was expected as Ebers not only finished the IMCA Hobby Stock Division feature event, but led all 20 laps to get his first win of the 2016...more

If you were to poll the drivers assembled for this weekend’s seventh annual Turkey Classic at Cocopah Speedway, it’s doubtful you would find anyone more thankful than Yuma’s Joe Haines. After all, it was just over two years ago that Haines was injured in a freak accident at the track, and in the hours afterward was shocked to hear that due to the extend of the damage to his right elbow, most of the arm would have to be amputated. But Friday night Haines, with his right elbow totally...more

By Randy Hoeft @YumaSunSports Dec 4, 2016 (0) Deja vu all over again? Close. For the second Saturday night in a row, the conclusion of an IMCA Stock Car Division main event at Cocopah Speedway featured an exciting race to the checkered flag. But this time there was no wild crash as there was during last week’s Turkey Classic. No, this time Yuma’s Manny Baldiviez edged Yuma’s Jimmy Davy by inches at the finish line to take Saturday night’s win in Round 12 of the 2016 Cocopah Speedway Racing...more

By: Randy Hoeft @YumaSunSports In 2016, Tom Dalen was excited to become Cocopah Speedway’s new general manager. Now he’s beside himself when talking about what the 2017 season has in store. The 2017 schedule kicks off Jan. 14 and includes, among other things, a longer Cocopah Speedway Racing Series season, a revamped Alexander Automotive Center IMCA Winter Nationals event and the crown jewel, an appearance by the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series.     Missing, however, is a third...more

By Mike Spieker SOMERTON, Ariz. (January 16, 2020) – Some of the best racing seen to date at the 2020 Winter Nationals at Cocopah Speedway was displayed on Thursday night. The IMCA Modified field was 25 cars strong as Kollin Hibdon and Randy Havlik paced the field to the green from the front row. Before the feature, the field gave the traditional four wide salute to the fans, but left the pole position open in memory of Jamestown, N.D. driver, Don Gumke, who passed away earlier in the week....more
